We’re team of friends – architects, designers and scenographers. We’re creative studio focused on architecture, interior design, exhibition installation and product design. Studio Formafatal was founded by architect Dagmar Štěpánová, and the team is now Dagmar, Jan, Martina, Katarina, Iveta, Dana, Anna and Debora. 8-member team is currently working on several commercial and residential projects not only in Czech Republic, but across the world. Formafatal studio has already won several domestic and international awards for their projects.

Art Villas Resort in Costa Rican jungle with views of the Pacific Ocean consists of three unique villas and one multifunctional tropical pavilion. The main architect of the whole resort and the author of Atelier Villa is the Formafatal studio headed by Dagmar Štěpánová. In addition to interior design, they imprinted the final form of each villa and united the entire Art Villas resort into a unique, integrated complex.

When designing the interiors, we found inspiration not only in the surrounding wild jungle, but also in the work of the Brazilian architect Paulo Mendez da Rocha. The concrete walls are deliberately left raw, complementing the interior components, selected materials, water, and greenery – all together creating an unusual environment, both rough and luxurious.

코스타리카 우비타(Uvita)에서 멀지 않은 Playa Hermosa 해변. 그곳에 자리한 우거진 정글을 헤치고 들어서면 대담하면서도 독특한 스타일을 지닌 세 개의 건축물과 하나의 파빌리온(Pavilion)으로 구성된 리조트를 발견하게 된다. 클라이언트는 자연과 어우러져 방문객들의 마음이 맑아지고, 럭셔리한 경험과 모험을 동시에 체험할 수 있는 공간을 만들고자 했다. 이에 스튜디오는 사람들 마음속 깊은 곳에 오랫동안 기억될 수 있는 장소를 만들기 위해 중 남미의 화려한 분위기와 색채에서 아이디어를 수집해 프로젝트를 진행했다.

인테리어를 설계할 때 야생 정글뿐만 아니라 브라질 건축가 Paulo Mendez da Rocha의 작품에서도 영 감을 얻었다. 손으로 직접 칠한 콘크리트 벽은 날 것 그대로 남겨져 선별된 내부의 재료와 녹지, 물 모두를 감싸 안는다. 콘크리트는 역동적인 물의 성질을 포착하고, 열대 우림과 어우러져 자연 그대로의 구조물처 럼 느껴진다. 이 모든 요소들은 거칠면서도 고급스러운 환경을 만들어냈다. Art Villa의 가구들 대부분은 현지 장인들이 직접 설계하여 맞춤 제작한 작품으로 티크 우드, 금속 및 리넨 소재들의 밝은 색감을 통해 콘크리트의 차가운 분위기를 보완했다.

Art Villa는 로비와 메인 거실, 식당, 수영장 및 테라스를 비롯한 넓은 공동 공간을 포함해 개인 욕실이 갖춰진 5개의 룸으로 구성되어있다. 지하실에는 아이들을 위한 놀이방과 체육관, 댄스홀, 세탁실 등이 있다. 침실과 욕실에는 니카라과(Nicaragua)에서 맞춤 제작한 시멘트 장식 타일이 깔려있는데 변화무쌍한 패턴과 화려한 색깔은 개성 강한 리조트의 성격을 그대로 나타낸다. 주방 백스플래쉬(backsplash)에 수채화로 그린 한 폭의 그림을 통해 또 다른 모습의 정글을 감상할 수 있다.

The two-storey villa holds a prominent spot on the premises of 25,000 m², with a floor area of 570 m². Apart from the generous common area (foyer, main living room, kitchen with a dining room, and the roofed terrace by the pool), the villa is equipped with a total of 5 bedrooms with private bathrooms. In the basement, there is a playroom for the children, a gym, a dance hall, a walkin closet, a laundry room and utility rooms. The bedrooms and bathrooms feature cement ornamental tiled floors, custom-made over the border in Nicaragua. The ever-changing patterns and colours are a reflection of the elusive and unique nature of every moment in time. Every step leads to a change.
